2009.11.24 The Ugly Duckling

No one ever told me I was pretty when I was a little girl.
All little girls should be told they're pretty, even if they aren't.

-Marylin Monroe-

When i saw this beautiful quote, it reminds me of my own childhood...
it wasn't my parent that give birth to an ugly baby. I was the first born in my family, and my parent told me that i was so cute when i was a baby. fair skin, light hair color, big pairs of eyes, and very chubby...and even that i was almost a hairless baby, people loves to play with me.
but that's changed when i get older...

on my first year of elementary school, my teacher found out that i have problem with my eyes and called my parent to talk it out. i was 6 years old that time, and my eye sight was really horrible that i can't see anything on the blackboard. i remember it was a big class back then. probably a class of 40 kids or more.
I remember i was mortified when my parent told me that they have to take me to the eye doctor. i know i have problem with my eyes, but i'm scared to hear anything from the doctor. I was in denial.
whenever they tried to took me to the doctor, i will hide, scream and cried.
but short story, they took me to the doctor and found out that i was nearsighted.
i remember that by the time they found out about my problem, it was pretty bad already. both eyes were at least -4 (or maybe in other place they call it 400 or something)
then i have to start using eye glasses.

back then, the glasses for -4 was really thick and ugly. i look at the mirror and think...i'm so ugly...and as if it's not bad enough, people made fun of me. my cousins, my classmates...all those mean kids. i feel sad, mad and frustrated. i became gloomy and grumpy.
it was never my decision to choose to have bad eye was never my decision to use that thick ugly glasses. it just happened. and life must go on.
it wasn't a pleasant memory at all. but whenever i think about that, i thank God that i was strong enough to get through all of that obstacles. it was truly a humbling experience for me.

when i read Monroe's quotation, i was wondering...what if someone told me i was pretty when i feel so ugly back then...maybe i will be a little bit happier and won't be too sad.
i cannot change my own past. but i can make a different in the future,
all little girls should be told that they are pretty, will you do that with me? ;)

my body is feel bloated too, my jeans are now taking their long long vacation...haha
luckily i still can squeeze into my sweaters

lately, the baby bump on my belly is starting to get rounder,
and most of the time hubby and I are talking about the baby baby baby...
we just finished watch the movie "The Business of Being Born" on netflick
it's about the controversial argument of home-birth.

vampy: "you know what...lately, mostly we talk about the baby baby baby..."
hubby: "ya..." (if you don't know...he doesn't really talk much)
vampy: "cannot believe! time flies so fast...before this Summer, it was all about you and me, you and me, you and me, you and me"
hubby: " wasn't. it was about you, you, you, you, you, you, you....and me...sometimes"
vampy: "ha??" ---> cannot believe he said that, but realize that it was kind of true! haha!!
vampy: "...really.....???"

i was laughing so hard! the way he said it was so funny!! i love my hubby so much,
even that sometimes he doesn't talk that much...or sometimes i find myself taking alone because he eventually fell asleep while i was talking!!! haha...but he is a very nice person and I'm happy to be with him ;D

2009.08.15 Elephant Village

this was one of the most exciting part of my travel this year!!
after the floating market session, the tour guide took us to the elephant village for an elephant ride ;D

we have to up to the stage in order to climb up to the elephant's back
ancient turtle looking cute with my purse and pink camera case...haha
view from the was so high!!
our elephant was an adult 25 years old female elephant, Tong Gua (the rider told me so)
she was so beautiful, lovely and playful,
we feed her with bananas ;D
the picture were taken by the elephant rider, pretty good eh?
the elephant infront of us apparently was Tong Gua's son
she was holding his tail with her trunk once in a while
we were kinda freaking out a little bit here,
the elephant suddenly went off road, and almost went into the swamp!!
but of course we still posing...haha
good girl, she went back on track ;D
then we crossing the small river,
Tong Gua was splashing water to her son...haha
thank you for the ride, beautiful elephant ;)

2009.11.11 My Little Peanut

Hubby and I were so excited to see the little baby for the first time,
before starting our first ultrasound, the doctor asked me...
Doctor: "do you feel pregnant?"
Me: ..............."yeah...i puked a lot!" XD~

the baby is still so tiny, about 2 inches, but he/ she move a lot already,
during the ultrasound, the baby moves his/ her arms and legs, looks so cute,
I was amazed, and it was feel surreal...
after all this time, we finally can see how the baby looks like,
it warms my heart to see the baby is healthy and the heart beating steadily

I haven't met you yet, but i know that I love you already my little peanut... ;)

2009.11.10 Cold Cold Night...Warm Sweet Dessert

It's a rainy day...and it's so cold here in Seattle,
I've been craving for a warm and sweet dessert to warm my body,
after craving for 2 days, finally i made it today,

Black Sticky Rice with Coconut Milk
Hubby and I ate this while playing Resident Evil on PS3...i mean, he was playing and i was watching him play...i'm suck at that game, keep getting killed by the zombie!! XD~
The green leaf on the coconut milk was the pandan leaf,
it made the dish became so fragrant! I'm so glad to find it on the Asian grocery store.
I was soooooooooo happy to find it...really!!
back in my dad's house in Bali, we got bunch of pandan leaf growing on our garden, and get stomped by the twin labs everyday!! ;p

2009.09.20 Hi Phil!

this is an overdue post,
but I would like to post it since it has lots of picture of food as well...haha
you know I love foodsss, foods are fun ;))

my hubby been telling me stories about his bestfriend, Phil,
he shown me pictures of him too,
and I was excited to finally meet the mysterious guy ;D
the first time I met him was on September 19th 2009,
we went to this all you can eat hot pot place at china town, so delish!!
been there billion time, never remember the restaurant name...haha...
all i can say now is that the hot pot place is located close by the craw fish restaurant ;p

the next day, we went fot dim sum...yumyum...
but that day, we didn't go to our usual dim sum place, Jade Garden.
somehow the polices block the way to chinatown @_@
so we end up try this other dim sum place on the gloomy plaza next to Viet Wah supermarket
unlike Jade Garden, you don't have to wait in line in this place ;p
the food is not bad too,

my all time favorite, Xia Gao...can finish 3 portions of this all by myself ;p that how we spell it?? lol
with Kenny & Phil,
can you see the steam chicken feet on the table...oh yummy!! haha
I think Chinese people really eat everything, feets, intestines, name it!! XD~
hubby and I,
we love to dip the dish with red vinegar + soy sauce + lots of chili sauce...delish!!
the food festival didn't stop there,
later on, we went for dinner at Julia's Indonesian restaurant,
i love this place, imho, it's pretty authentic ;))
the happy dinners ;D
Nasi Rames - Ayam Kremes
the fried chicken is super good!! i always craving for more...i want it now!! drolls...

2009.11.06 Quick Dinner

When i feel very low in energy,
and don't really have the drive to cook something fancy,
then we'll have something really simple for dinner
it took less than 10 minutes to prepare this ;))

Indonesian Food: Bihun Bakso (Rice Vermicelli with Beef Meatballs)
tomato was added to the soup to add fresh tangy'nes flavour to combat my nausea
garnished with fried garlic and fried onion

My bowl and his... ;D

2009.11.06 TGIF!!!

Thank God it's Friday!!!
I'm super duper happy!! I always longing for weekend ;D
but this weekend won't be as fun and free as i expected it to be,
have 3 papers to do during this short weekend...boohoo...

but the good news is, next Wednesday is the Veteran day,
meaning, one extra holiday in the middle of the week, how fun is that!!

I called my family practice today to schedule my first ultrasound on next Wednesday,
I'm really curious about how the little baby gonna look like...hmmm...
my friend told me that on her 1st ultrasound, the baby looked like a bean,
then on the 2nd, it looked like alien, then finally on her 3rd ultrasound, the baby finally looks like human, with little penis! haha...they having a boy!
can't wait for 9 more weeks to check my baby's gender too!!
I'm always so curious, and hate to wait so long before I can find out about stuff...hmmmfff...

as you all know, there's so much old wive tales out there,
I'm not a superstitious person, but sometimes it's fun to "guess" the baby gender based on those old tales...the stomach shape...what do you craving for...blablabla...
so i took 2 baby gender quizzes online...
the 1st result is a boy
the 2nd one is a girl...LOL
oh well...i guess i just need to be patient and wait a little longer to find out ;D

but...IF i will have a girl,
the kid will probably looks like me...since the due date is only 3 days apart from my birthday,

when i was 3 years old ;D
